Services for Finding Balance with Body and Food

Eating and body image concerns are common problems on college campuses. In fact, disliking the way we look or engaging in disordered eating can be so common that many people do not see it as a problem. Concerns around food and body can range from body dissatisfaction to disordered eating to an actual eating disorder. These concerns can affect self-esteem, relationships, anxiety, mood, and academic success. Several departments within the FAU Division of Student Affairs have come together to create programs to help students struggling with these issues. Below is a list of services.

Eating Concerns Treatment Team (ECTT)

Who it is for:  Students seen by ECTT struggle with a variety of concerns around food and body, which may include chronic dieting or restricting food, binge eating, purging (by vomiting, using laxatives/diet pills, over-exercising), cycles of restricting/chronic dieting and binge eating, feeling consumed by thoughts of food or body, or fears of weight gain or body dissatisfaction that is getting in the way of you doing the things you want to do. Students with Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder may also appropriate for the ECTT.

What it is:  Students are assessed for the team and recommendations for treatment are made depending on individual student needs. Recommended treatment components might include short term individual therapy or group therapy at Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS), physical health monitoring, and meetings with FAU's Registered Dietitian at Student Health Services. Members of the ECTT collaborate and work together to help you work towards your goals.
